Benny Golson
American bebop/hard bop jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and arranger Benny Golson playing backstage. In 1958 Art Blakey formed a new lineup of The Jazz Messengers with four Philadelphia natives: Lee Morgan, Benny Golson (pictured), Bobby Timmons and Jymie Merritt. This group marked the beginning of probably the most fruitful period of the Jazz Messengers.
