Sonny Liston
American boxer Charles “Sonny” Liston’s grave at Paradise Memorial Gardens, Las
Vegas, near McCarran Airport. On Liston’s grave, the inscription reads “A Man”. Liston
fought and lost to Muhammad Ali by technical knockout on February 25, 1964. The rematch in 1965 also resulted in a knock-out win by Ali in the first round within the first two minutes, but the circumstances surrounding the ‘phantom punch’ remain in dispute. Liston died on December 30, 1970 at aged 39 of a reported heroin overdose, though that too, remains questionable.
