To honour Martin Luther King, Jr, Iconic Images take a deeper look at the archive of Ted Williams.

On 21st June 1964, an estimated 57,000 - 75,000 people took to the streets of Chicago for the 'Illinois Rally for Civil Rights'. King said to the crowd on this day, “We have come a long, long way in the civil rights struggle, but let me remind you that we have a long, long way to go. Passage of the civil rights bill does not mean that we have reached the promised land in civil rights.” He stressed that the bill alone was not enough – “vigorous enforcement” was essential to success.

Williams captured the events of the day, including some remarkable photographs of Martin Luther King, Jr during his speech.

Iconic Images present a collection of these images in a new digital exhibition.
