Famed photographer Gered Mankowitz photographed some of the biggest names in music throughout the sixties and seventies. We spoke to Gered about his time photographing Suzi Quatro.
The great producer Mickie Most discovered Suzi in 1971, but she didn’t start having hits until he introduced her to Nicky Chinn & Mike Chapman (Chinnichap) and they came up with Can the Can which went to #1. I shot the session for that record and came up with the leader of the gang look, although I believe it was Mickie’s idea to put her into the leather jump suit. A genuine talent, I continued to work with her throughout the 70s and have worked with her regularly since then.
