I love the shapes and contrasts in this photograph by Norman Parkinson which was published in the April 1938 issue of British Harper’s Bazaar as part of a feature on summer wedding guest fashion. It was taken at Eaton Terrace in South West London from the top of a taxi, an angle which perfectly showcases the large straw hats whilst fashion models read their wedding invitation. The dresses are by South-African born British couturier Victor Stiebel (1907-1976) in pleated chiffons and jerseys, worn with black sling-back pumps, long gloves and a floral bouquet.
