For the first time in France, many preparatory photographs from the most famous series of the British photographer Norman Parkinson (1913-1990) will be presented.
After looking at the contact sheets and before choosing the final image that would be chosen for the publication, the fashion photographer made small black-and-white film prints from the negatives. Galerie XII will present these originals that illuminate Parkinson’s artistic approach and are now real collector’s items. A comparable lot was sold at Christie’s London in September 2017 for £ 20,000.
Parks, as his friends called him, is one of the founders of contemporary fashion photography. In the late 1940s, he took the models out of the studios to take them to exotic places, fantastic and unexpected.
This session perfectly illustrates his style, elegant, offbeat and not without a touch of British humor.
